In the year 2021, the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) will celebrate 100 years of service to pre-K-8 principals worldwide. NAESP recognizes the importance of this landmark event and is committed to assisting principals prepare for the future. NAESP's VISION 2021 initiative asks the important questions: What will schools be like in 2021? What will be the role of principals in 2021? What needs to be done today to prepare schools for the next generation?

The mission of VISION 2021 is two-fold:
- Understand the drivers that are shaping teaching, leading and learning; and how the future is changing for pre-K-8 principals; and
- Envision strategies, models, structures and relationships that will realign NAESP with the future.
NAESP, in partnership with the Institute for Alternative Futures (IAF) and state affiliate organizations, will be working closely toward engaging:
- NAESP staff
- diverse stakeholder groups
- national thought leaders
